Psalm 116

1  I love the Lord,
for he has heard the voice of my supplication; ♦︎
because he inclined his ear to me
on the day I called to him.
10  How shall I repay the Lord ♦︎
for all the benefits he has given to me?
11  I will lift up the cup of salvation ♦︎
and call upon the name of the Lord.
12  I will fulfil my vows to the Lord ♦︎
in the presence of all his people.
13  Precious in the sight of the Lord ♦︎
is the death of his faithful servants.
14  O Lord, I am your servant, ♦︎
   your servant, the child of your handmaid;
you have freed me from my bonds.
15  I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving ♦︎
and call upon the name of the Lord.
16  I will fulfil my vows to the Lord ♦︎
in the presence of all his people,
17  In the courts of the house of the Lord, ♦︎
in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
      Alleluia.

Genesis 21: 1-7

The Birth of Isaac

21The Lord dealt with Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as he had promised. 2Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time of which God had spoken to him. 3Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son whom Sarah bore him. 4And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6Now Sarah said, ‘God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.’ 7And she said, ‘Who would ever have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.’

Hebrews 3: 1-6

Moses a Servant, Christ a Son

3Therefore, brothers and sisters,* holy partners in a heavenly calling, consider that Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses also ‘was faithful in all* God’s* house.’ 3Yet Jesus* is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honour than the house itself. 4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s* house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later. 6Christ, however, was faithful over God’s* house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm* the confidence and the pride that belong to hope.
